Fertility Support

Fertility is the deepest expression of our bodies and ourselves. Being fertile does not just mean having an ability to conceive a life within yourself but also being able to live a life that is creative, joyful, healthy and compassionate. Conception is an intricate and harmonious process during which our inner energies have to align in order to produce a new life. In order for our energies to be in alignment, it is important to look into the deepest parts of the mind, body and soul.
Here are some of the questions that you might want to explore if you are experiencing fertility difficulties: Are you nourishing your body with good quality food? Are you getting enough rest? How do you deal with stress? Are you incorporating movement and exercise into your daily life? Are you overworking yourself? Are you happy in your relationship?

Our Approach

Our approach to fertility treatment is multifaceted. During your first visit, we will discuss your health history in depth. Once we identify the root of the imbalance from a Chinese medical perspective, we will work with you to improve and correct the imbalances that may be interfering with your ability to conceive. This may include dietary and lifestyle changes, acupuncture treatment protocols and herbal medicine.

Fertility Treatment With Acupuncture

In the last couple of years, acupuncture has received a lot of press as an adjunct therapy to western medical treatment of infertility. Research has shown that administering acupuncture twenty minutes before and after embryo transfer during IVF procedure significantly increases the chances of conception. However, it is important to state that acupuncture is an effective therapy for couples who want to conceive naturally.

Herbs To Aid Fertility

Practitioners of Chinese medicine have over 500 medicinal substances to their disposal. Most practitioners tend to use around 150 different herbs and each formulas can contain around 5 to 15 substances. No individual herb is considered a special “fertility enhancer” although some herbs tend to be used more frequently in fertility treatments. The formula blend will depend on individual situation of each patient: their age, symptoms, overall constitution, western medical diagnosis (if any) as well as practitioner’s training, experience and preference. Formulas for women and men tend to be different but there is some overlap in ingredients used. Chinese herbs are most commonly administered as herbal decoctions (tea), granules (powders that are dissolved in hot water), pills and capsules.

Duration Of Treatment And Prognosis

In Chinese clinical studies, daily use of herbal medicine usually resulted in restored fertility within three to six months. If pregnancy is not achieved within eight to nine months it is unlikely that the treatment will be successful. It is important to note that approximately one-third of infertility cases may fail to respond to all reasonable attempts. One advantage of Chinese medicine is that even if pregnancy doe not occur, you will not suffer from negative side effects of treatment but rather improve your overall health and well being.
